The SpyWARE Who Came In From The Cold

by Ron Rogers

My friend is an outdoorsman, at least that's what he'd like to be, on a routine day he tunes up PCs and does an exceptional job and has a fine reputation. When the geek gods send me a personal computer quandary, Jody is the one I reach for and no matter how complicated or convoluted the problem, give him some time and he'll ferret out a resolution. He told me something troubling last night, it seems that the majority of the PCs he works on have spyware or adware on their systems, and a good number of his customers are ignorant of it; calling him when their computers grind to a halt.

The net is similar to a living, breathing creature continually developing, and not always in a constructive path, though it definitely has given me opportunities. As the days flow and technology moves forward, so too does spyware. It is critical in today's environment to have Spyware Removal software on your system and to use it often; crucial is keeping the software up to date, because what may have worked yesterday could jump over a virus or adwarecreated today.

As research for this musing (but not using this system) I performed a test, uninstalling my spyware removal software then purposedly visiting several auto surf sites. These websites are ideal for new webmasters, giving them the method to deliver visitors to their own websites, simply by their visiting and looking at different sites. They work like this:

You visit site 'A' and receive a credit for doing so. The credits are assigned to a site you want to promote. when other people surf, your website is offered for review. The system allows everyone to receive traffic to their sites.

In theory this is a beautiful plan, but some (not all) of these sites are either run by or visited by people with dishonesty on their mind. The goal not to simply display their offer or website, but to lead you to install spyware on your system. And with today's technology some malware is intelligient enough to trigger the download of spyware/adware onto your system, as easily as looking at their innocent looking marketing offer. I'm not knocking these sites or suggesting that all are bad, I am suggesting watchfulness and stating you be sure your system is safe.

If you're reading this, studies say you may already have or will certainly be infected by spyware or adware. If you're thinking, well I don't visit movies or music sites and I certainly would never download bootleg programs, then congratulations, but you are remain open to attacks. Take the safety measure. Take heed of the old expression...

'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure'

Nowhere is that truer than with the important data on your PC. There is a lot of your data, either from your job or personal standpoint; think of opening your eyes up to find all your data gone. Appalling, certainly... Could it happen?... Yes. Avoidable? Yes by installing the most highly rated adware removal programs.

Now that I have your attention, maybe you're thinking what will spyware and adware do to my computer. Outstanding, happy to know you're thinking. In most cases spyware/adware/malware are not were not coded to erase files, but silent reporters. Collecting datathen reporting back to someone/somewhere; the spyware might display ads and will stifle your system, slow your CPU speed and lessen your connection to the net. It's not so much the damage done, but the fact that your life, your privacy, your system has been breached and these people (whomever they are) have no right to be there.

Thankfully there are sharp programmers who feel exactly the same way I do; they are willing to not take this lying down. I don't know how to write programs, Instead I write, and I offer these thoughts to offer fair warning and recommend you take precautions and shield your PC. I applaud those guys and gals with the skill and heart to program and make available these top drawer spyware/adware removal programs.

When you make a decision on one of the spyware/malware removal tools to use, I'd advise frequent scans of your PC. When the programs are setup properly, most of the scans are done automatically, and probably while you're asleep.
